Q: What is one of the most corrosive natural substances?

A: Brine solution or Saltwater.

When you buy stainless steel, you don't expect it to rust. In fact, most warranties don't cover rust. Stainless steel by itself is too soft of a metal to retain an effective cutting edge. So maufacturers will add carbon which is much more durable. The negative is that under extreme circumstances the metal will corrode and rust. You will find that most manufacturers are unwilling to help, but there are a few things you can do:

Step 1 -- Rinse off your frag tool.  Dip a moist, soft toothbrush in a box of baking soda. Scrub the tool and allow the baking soda to foam. The mild abrasive action will get into the hinged areas where bacteria and rust can hide without damaging it.

Step 2 -- Rinse the baking soda off with warm water then dry thoroughly with a soft cotton towel. If you have an air compressor close by and an air gun that would be perfect to use to get your frag tool thoroughly dry. (Be sure to use safety glasses)

Step 3 -- Once dry, spray the tool with a light mineral oil. Use a dry towel to work the oil to completely cover your frag tool. You can leave the tool moist with mineral oil or choose to wipe off all excess residue.

Step 4 -- Frag tools are sharp. Please store them in a safe, dry location. By using these procedures every time you use your Frag Supply frag tool will ensure years of continued use.

Tools Already Rusty?

Removing rust from stainless steel usually requires just a little bit of light oil, such as WD40, and some sanding with a fine sandpaper. Avoid etching the surface of stainless steel when removing rust, and consider using a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice to gently remove rust. If you don't feel comfortable with light sandpaper you can use a fiber scouring pad.

For really rust encrusted tools, do as recommended above, then let the tool sit submerged in mineral oil overnight then repeat the cleaning process.
